MotoArena Toruń

I had been following the construction of the MotoArena Toruń since the project started on site....completed in May of this year, it provides us with a sterling example of a new Speedway facility, and is a reflection also of the changing face of Speedway (and professional spectator sport in general) in Poland.

Capable of holding 15,500 spectators in a comfortable and weatherproofed environment, the fundamental construction itself is relatively basic, but it looks impressive nonetheless, and in my humble opinion, offers a glimpse of what can be delivered in this country with a different attitude from both the promoters and perhaps the sporting authority.
I would be very interested in hearing the views of anybody who has visited the MotoArena.

  1. A spectacular venue! Nice to see speedway thrives in at least some part of the world. Now off to the shabby strip in the middle of a field that we call a speedway here, to watch a lot of middle-aged overweight amateurs wearing pajamas who we call speedway riders. Maybe I'll emigrate to Poland. One can always dream.

  2. Unfortunately, Poland are where we were back in the 1950's...it appears to be a massively popular sport, strangely enough, even with some of the track preparation problems we seem to have here in the UK....the Extra League racing in Poland can often be as processional (if not more) than in the Elite League, but crowds are at least three times that of the highest average crowds in this country.

The popularity of the sport in Poland, coupled with the success of the national team in recent years (and of course more relaxed planning regulations) has seen the sport grow, sustain that growth and popularity and generate good levels of income, allowing facilities to be improved.
